Xavier Teach Southeast

There are three types of funding available for teacher training to help you finance your training year:

- Tuition Fee and Maintenance Loan

- Tax-free Bursary or Scholarship

- Extra financial support for parents, those with an adult dependent, or those with a disability

If you are looking to train as a teacher you could receive a tuition fee loan to help you complete your teacher training year and start your new career. You can apply for tuition fees loans to cover up to £9,250, these are paid directly to you by Student Finance England. Tuition Fee Loans are not repayable until you are earning over the salary threshold.

For more information please visit the Get Into Teaching Funding My Teacher Training Pages.

You could get up to £27,000 tax-free while you train in the form of a government teacher training bursary. Your eligibility for, and the amount you can expect to receive, will depend on the subject you choose to teach and your degree classification or highest relevant academic qualification.

For current bursaries please see our Bursary and Scholarship Table:

You don’t need to apply for a bursary – if you are enrolled on a non-salaried postgraduate course and meet the eligibility criteria, you will begin receiving payments automatically by your chosen teacher training provider. How you are paid will depend on the amount of financial support you receive.

You will receive more information on the arrangements and how this is distributed prior to the start of your course.

If you are a parent, have an adult dependant or a disability there may be some extra financial support available to you:

Once you have accepted your place with us, you can apply for Parents’ Learning Allowance, Disabled Students’ Allowance and Adult Dependants’ Grant online via Student Finance England (SFE).

Childcare Grants are also managed by SFE, but you will need to complete and submit a paper application form.

Child Tax Credits are claimed by ordering a tax credits claim form via GOV.UK.
