Xavier Teach Southeast

We are delighted that you are interested in our primary SCITT programme. Our Primary programme is designed to equip  trainees with the understanding of teaching and learning processes. Our Primary Leads across our Regional ITT Hubs bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge from their own teaching backgrounds and work alongside trainees and schools to provide outstanding school placements. All primary trainees get valuable teaching experience in two settings, covering the breadth of the curriculum across two key stages.

Thorough grounding in both core and foundation subjects alongside the key teaching principles gives trainees confidence to plan effectively and adapt their teaching for all pupils, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who speak English as an additional language.

“Trainees in the primary-age phase are superbly prepared to teach phonics and early reading” Ofsted 2023.

Throughout your training year you will be exposed to many opportunities and experiences, and although you will primarily be based in your Home School, there will be plenty of times when you will network with trainees/apprentices across our partnership and beyond. You will have the opportunity to work together on professional studies and subject days, as well as sharing experiences at key moments throughout the year with wider colleagues such as during enhancement experience days, for example, primary school visits.

School-based training aims to develop professional, reflective and effective teachers by encouraging qualities such as creativity, commitment, enthusiasm and intellectual liveliness. We know that the journey may at times feel demanding, but we hope that you enjoy the experience, leaving well-prepared for the challenging but highly rewarding job of providing the best education possible for the young people that we teach.
